Nature sounds at a desk with a lot going on
A realistic approach to background sound when the room has conversations, notifications, and everyday interruptions.
A background, not an invisible wall
A nearby conversation may still be noticeable with Rain playing. That doesn’t mean the mix is broken. Nature sounds add another layer to the room; they don’t guarantee that voices disappear or that your attention stays in one place all afternoon.
Start with a low, steady layer and try it during one ordinary task. If you can change something practical, such as silencing a nonessential notification or moving away from a speaker, do that too. There is no slider setting that fixes every busy workspace.
Choose fewer noticeable events
Rain or Stream is a straightforward place to begin. Compare one with silence while writing a short paragraph or checking a document. Decide whether you prefer the background, rather than assuming any sound will make the room easier to work in.
If you add Birds or Thunder, pay attention to whether their moments become another interruption. You may like them at home but want a simpler mix here. Save a separate desk version instead of repeatedly editing the combination you enjoy during a break.
Make room for actual work
Pause before a meeting or a conversation so you aren’t balancing two things you need to hear. If you use speakers, check that the sound is welcome in a shared space. Someone else’s favourite working background may be silence.
Once you’ve found a comfortable level, stop visiting the controls unless something changes. A mix that needs adjusting every two minutes may be the wrong fit for that task. Turn it off and try again later rather than treating the setup as something you have to get right.
